The error was that after I selected "VGA Console" I did NOT select frame
buffer option. You must answer yes to that question, and then all is
well. The new kernel is running, and none of the wierdness I was getting
before seems to have come back (I can do a df -k, etc top and proc work
correctly) I've only had it booted for a few minutes, so well see.
BTW i did try the patch again, and got a failure, but getting the virgin
source seems to compile fine. will start playing with sound in a bit and
see if we can get that to work ;)
